Sleep

I float upon an ocean of blackness
eyes closed, I inhale the rich sea air
until a pair of hands drag me beneath the waves

I fight to return to the surface
but Sleep does not willingly relinquish his grip
as we sink deeper into unconsciousness
of the sea

I'm suffocating
but his hands remain over my mouth
my eyelids flutter
and I give up

my lungs fill themselves
with water
and I silently wait
for the end
